Edupayala Temple
Nestled within lush forest and dramatic natural stone formations, Edupayala Vana Durga Bhavani Temple is one of the most revered pilgrimage sites in Telangana. Dedicated to Goddess Kanakadurga, it is situated at the sacred confluence of seven rivulets — “Edu” (seven) + “Payalu” (streams) — flowing into the Manjeera River. The temple draws nearly 30 lakh devotees annually from Telangana, Karnataka, and Maharashtra. The grand annual Jatara festival and Mahashivaratri celebrations are unmissable cultural events.
Medak Fort
Perched atop a commanding hilltop, Medak Fort — originally named “MethukuDurgam” — was built approximately 800 years ago under the Kakatiya ruler Pratapa Rudra. The massive stone fortification served as a strategic command post for the Kakatiyas and later the Qutub Shahis, who added a 17th-century mosque and granaries within its walls. Its towering ramparts, ancient gateways, and panoramic views across the Deccan plateau make it one of Telangana’s finest examples of medieval military architecture.
Medak Cathedral Church
The Medak Cathedral is a magnificent Gothic Revival structure and one of the largest churches in Asia. The Medak Diocese is the single largest diocese in Asia and second in the world after the Vatican. Commissioned by Rev. Charles Walker Posnett, construction began in 1914 across 1,000 acres and provided employment to thousands during the Medak famine. The cathedral’s soaring spire, exquisite stained glass windows depicting Biblical narratives, and a nave seating over 2,000 make it a landmark of extraordinary scale and artistry.
Singur Dam
Built across the Manjeera River near Sangareddy, Singur Dam is one of Telangana’s most scenic reservoirs with a gross storage capacity of 30 TMC, supplying drinking water to Hyderabad and Secunderabad. The reservoir is home to nearly 1,000 crocodiles and is designated as a National Wildlife Reserve, rich with water bird species. Between October and February, migratory birds flock to the Manjira backwaters, offering exceptional birdwatching and photography opportunities. Boat rides are also available.
Narsapur Forest Urban Park
The closest natural escape to the WAMS 2026 venue, Narsapur Forest Urban Park lies within the Narsapur forest area alongside the Hyderabad–Medak highway. Opened to the public in June 2020, the park features a walkway, trekking trail, and a three-level watch tower with sweeping views of the forest and Narsapur Lake. The trek to the tower is ~500 metres at a moderate incline, with rest areas en route. A more challenging trail continues to the scenic lakeside cottages — perfect for the adventurous visitor.
